Killeen recognized as Playful City USA for ninth consecutive year

KILLEEN, Texas -

For the ninth year in a row the City of Killeen has been named Playful City USA!

The national award comes from the non-profit organization KaBoom! dedicated to bringing play into the lives of children.

Only 258 cities in the country carry this prestigious award.

KaBoom! considers several factors when selecting the city including safety, amenities and more.

"It's great! I mean to be named Playful City USA means a lot because we want to be a community where our residents are able to enjoy themselves, and that's what it is about," said Brett Williams, Executive Director of Killeen Creative Services, "It holds you accountable for things you make available to your citizens both paid and free and we take a lot of pride in that."

In addition to being named Playful City USA, Killeen has also been named Tree City USA.

They hold that honor for 10 year in a row.
